Sarah Steppelman Mason was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, where she spent her childhood running barefoot through suburbia, staging and photographing Barbie and plastic pony vignettes, and walking dogs for popsicles. She received a BFA in Illustration from the University of Central Missouri in 2002, after-which she promptly moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she taught four semesters of Illustration 266, and received her MFA in Visual Communications/Illustration. Upon graduation, she found herself teaching elementary art in Tucson for 2 years. In-between art-teaching jobs, she has worked with horses, as a florist, and as a legal assistant. She left her heart in Durango, Colorado, where she lived for 5 years, and was a founding member of Studio &. Sarah currently resides in Carrollton, Georgia where she is a part-time Drawing and 2D Design instructor in the Art Department of the University of West Georgia. She lives with her husband, Cody, their little girl, Siena, and her sibling kittens, Klaus and Louise. When she is not painting, she spends her time traveling, hiking, thinking about and drinking wine, and striving to be proficient in yoga.
